Reuters reported on August 8 that Mac users in China can connect to Alibaba’s Qwen AI service. Apple’s currently indexed China support pages still say Apple Intelligence is unavailable on supported devices purchased in mainland China and describe ChatGPT—not Qwen—as Siri’s optional external knowledge service.
What is supported
The broader partnership is well supported. July coverage of the Chinese regulatory registration cited Alibaba saying Qwen would be integrated across Apple operating systems in China, and Baidu also confirmed work with Apple. That supports the direction of travel, not universal availability on every Mac today.
What remains unresolved
- Which exact Apple support page or software build the August 8 report refers to.
- Whether access is staged, account-limited, device-limited, or broadly released.
- Whether Apple’s public China support notes are lagging the rollout or the headline is ahead of general availability.
- Which Qwen model and privacy terms apply to a real user session.
How to verify your own Mac
Use Apple’s support page for your exact macOS version, device purchase region, current location, account region, and language. ChinaCool will update this check when Apple’s public instructions and the reported rollout converge.
